Farewelling and Celebrating Zynab Al Harbiya

It has been a devastating and emotional term for Sirius College after the loss of Zynab Al Harbiya. The counselling department have provided, and will continue to provide, one-on-one and group counselling for students, parents and staff during this very difficult time.

In order to acknowledge the passing of Zynab Al Harbiya, Eeatmeadows Secondary students and staff honoured Zynab in a whole school assembly on Friday 9th of June. The ceremony opened with a speech from the school captains, a Quran recitation by Year 9 student Belqis, and a recitation of a poem written about Zynab, by Vice-captain Dilara Ilhan. Psychologist, Dr. Senem Eren’s insightful guidance about dealing with grief was followed by powerful words by our distinguished MPs, Frank Mcguire and Maria Vamvakinou. The ceremony concluded with the placement of a plaque in a garden area at Eastmeadows campus, which will now be known as ‘A Garden for Zynab’.

Our deepest condolences are with Zynab’s family, relatives and friends. She will always be remembered.

Sincerely,

Counselling Department.
